August 2016 Member Updates

Congratulations Randy Strode of Agri-Starts, on his election to the Board of Directors, Farm Credit of Central Florida.

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS

Meet Jason Lyden, second generation of Farm Life Tropical Foliage in Homestead, a mostly interior foliage operation started by Jason’s father in 1984. Jason is growing many pine rockland and rockland hammock native plants on open areas of the farm, using Rootmaker(TM) growbags to produce more portable and successful plants. Jason intends to produce a line of native trees, in the 10-12′ high size, and possibly also some grasses. He has already produced red mulberries and dahoon hollies. Jason grew up in Florida, enjoys the outdoors and really “likes all the animals and plants.” FANN welcomes Jason and the next generation of Farm Life!

Pro Native Consulting in Miami — FANN is honored to have among our members ProNative Consulting president Steve Woodmansee, a very fine South Florida field botanist and past president of Florida Native Plant Society. Steve does a lot of consulting to property owners who need to comply with Miami-Dade environmental regulations and can also be found one Saturday a month, consulting and selling plants to retail customers at John Lawson’s Silent Native Nursery in Homestead. Thank you, Steve, for putting up with our office failures.

John R. Howard, Southeast AG Marketing, a new allied member offering organic fertilizer (OMRI certified) and crop insurance. John is based in Hillsborough County but serves the entire state.
