FNPS announces Florida Native Plant Month 2015

CelebrateLogo_NO_FNPS
Municipalities, Cities and Counties throughout Florida are issuing proclamations declaring October 2015 as FLORIDA NATIVE PLANT MONTH, thanks to the efforts of our native plant partner, Florida Native Plant Society. Florida Native Plant Month is a great way to introduce the public to the benefits of native plants at your fall plant sales and special events. Proclamations by local and state elected officials provide recognition to the FNPS conservation mission statewide.

FNPS members have already accepted proclamations in several counties, with at least another 35 scheduled and more pending final approval. To see if your county has a proclamation, or to see sponsors of the month-long celebration, visit the FNPS web page:
http://www.fnps.org/news/plantmonth
and look under the events tab for your county. Contact your local FNPS chapter to see how you can support Florida Native Plant Month.

Most FNPS Chapters have a lot of activities in October. It is a popular time for plant sales, plant walks and other outdoor events. These events are being promoted on a special web page on the FNPS website under the Events tab. The web address is:
http://www.fnps.org/news/plantmonth.
If you have an event you would like to add to this list, send it to Donna Bollenbach, Chair of the Florida Native Plant Committee, at donna.bollenbach@gmail.com

FNPS is soliciting sponsors for their activities. FANN member Naturewise & The Green Marketplace, 3910 N Cocoa Blvd. (US 1), Cocoa, FL 32926, will be offering a discount on native plants to FNPS and Florida Wildflower Foundation members. If you would like to be a sponsor for Florida Native Plant Month, contact Andy Taylor at andytaylor6@gmail.com.

This is an exciting event that we hope to see grow and be repeated each year. To get the full benefit, FNPS needs everyone to spread the word, promote the event and join in celebrating “Florida Native Plant Month.”

The mission of the Florida Native Plant Society is the preservation, conservation and restoration of the native plants and native plant communities of Florida.
