Green Thumb, Inc. is an urban landscape design, installation and maintenance firm specializing in native and tropical landscapes, antique rose gardens, tropical edibles, and interior plantscaping. Our passion is bringing nature back into urban areas with the flora that supports those ecosystems. We do this by educating our clients, students and the public, and collaborating with local agencies and organizations to help us to stay on the pulse of the latest research and trends in agriculture and horticulture regionally.

Green Thumb is a fine gardening company with high standards and environmentally friendly practice protocols. We use protocols and follow guidelines from the University of Florida/IFAS and Broward Cooperative Extension Service. We specialize in personalized services to meet individual requirements, environmental conditions and other needs of our diverse clientele.

We are looking to hire a trustworthy, career-minded Landscape Crew Chief/Lead Gardener.
Full-time position with potential growth for the right person.
Green Thumb will pay for advancement courses, certifications etc.
Team member must be eligible to work in USA and have a valid and clean driver’s license.
We work in all (3) surrounding counties, Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach. Our shop is located in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

Crew Chief / Lead Gardener must have at least 2+ years of experience supervising a crew, a strong work ethic, and reliable transportation. Able to provide for the overall quality control, appearance and general health of the landscape of estate homes and customers who require excellence. Knowledge and experience in many aspects of landscaping, knowledge of plants, plant diseases and irrigation. Able to manage multiple projects, Able to report daily tracking of time, job descriptions and materials as well as manage crew labor hours and tasks to complete projects efficiently. Able to manage materials and supplies inventories so that they are available when needed on jobs. Must be able to communicate well both verbally and in writing with fellow workers and clients. Must be able to establish confidence in both customers and employees through sound judgment and tasks completed well. This is a working crew leader position so being a team player is a must.

Skills, responsibilities and duties

  • Weeding, manual hedge trimming, pruning and clean-up.
  • Digging correct holes for planting, correct mulching & fertilizing techniques, and hauling dirt, mulch, gravel, rocks, etc.
  • Sodding, lawn mowing, edging, weed eating and blowing.
  • Working in and around ponds and canals.
  • Experience using and maintaining mechanical equipment including a lawnmower, chainsaw and sod cutter, etc. particularly OSHA & BMP safety procedures and personal gear use.
  • Experience with irrigation repairs and installation.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs., bend and move about freely, and work outside in the South Florida summer heat.

Hours of operation are generally Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm with half hour paid lunch break. There is occasional overtime, if our jobs require it.

Green Thumb will pay for training, certifications and licensure after one year.

Ideal Candidates

  • Minimum 2+ years experience in residential landscape installation, maintenance and irrigation and leadership.
  • Career minded permanent employee.
  • Very Detail Oriented
Knowledge of plants ID.
  • 
Knowledge of plant pest and diseases.
  • Knowledge of irrigation diagnostics, repairs and alterations.
  • Clean driving record.
  • 
Must have reliable transportation
  • High school graduate
  • 
GI-BMP Fertilizer License or the ability to get it within 6 months
  • Must speak English. Bilingual a plus.
  • 
Must be a team player, dependable and self-motivated.
  • 
Able to work efficiently and effectively with little or no supervision.
  • Starting pay depends on experience and credentials.
